Alert from Debra Haffner
The Bush Administration's latest
politicized health education is a new web site
for parents on talking to teenagers about sex
(a subject you know that is near and dear to
me). Good idea, but the web site assumes all
parents want their children to wait until marriage
to have sex, that all children will grow up
to be heterosexual adults who can marry, and
includes misleading information about condoms,
STDS, pregnancy, abortion, and the effects
of premarital sex. It was designed without
any input from mainstream health and education
organizations but instead relied on an abstinence-only
organization. The web site is www.4parents.gov
if you want to look at it yourself...
SIECUS is collecting emails to send to the
Secretary of HHS (since he does not have a
public email address.) They want to deliver
thousands of emails to the Secretary asking
them to take down the web site until it can
be reviewed and revised to include ALL families
and ALL teens and medically accurate information.
So, this will only take you a minute...go to
http://www.familiesaretalking.org/hhs_letter.htm
and fill out this form. Let's let the Secretary
know that some of us believe that our teenage
and young adult children deserve honest information
from their parents!
And PLEASE then take a minute and pass this
email on to the parents in your address book
who you think would be supportive.
Thanks!
