Where Is The Palestinian Gandhi?

The Irish Rock Band’s breakthrough single in 1987 was “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.” Written by the band’s lead singer Bono, it declared:

I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will blend into one
But yes, I’m still running.

You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains
Carried the cross of my shame
Oh my shame you know I believe it

But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for
But I still haven’t found
What I’m looking for.

Earlier this year Bono announced that he still hasn’t found a Palestinian Gandhi. In our current issue of The Link, we have good news for him. Former Yale University professor Mazin Qumsiyeh introduces more than one Palestinian who, through nonviolent resistance, is breaking the bonds and loosing the chains of apartheid--and yes, carrying the cross of our collective shame.
