Is Israel on "Index of Forbidden Topics" in Senate?
Professor Daniel C. Maguire of Marquette University in Milwaukee sent the following letter to his two Wisconcin senators, Russell Feingold and Herb Kohn. He is still awaiting their reply.
Senator Kohl,
Secretary
of State Clinton is testifying today in Congress where there is
much concern
about Iran test-firing a long range missile. I just heard
Senator Casey saying
this could destabilize the Middle East.
Until the Second Vatican Council,
the Vatican had an Index of Forbidden
Books.
My question: is there an
Index of Forbidden Topics in the Senate, such as
the fact that Israel has atomic
weapons and the planes and missiles
necessary to deliver these as well as being
the fourth most powerful army
in the world? That is here and now destabilzing
since it is prompting
other nations in the region to follow suit. It also threatens
American
security since it is well known that we countenanced and supported
Israel
in its rise to military dominance in the Middle East. Dare you or anyone
in
Congress mention this?
I know that there are other topics relating to Israel
that you cannot
mention. My Marquette University students and I wrote to you
asking why
there has never been a congressional investigation of the June 8,
1967
attack on the USS Liberty resulting in the death of 34 sailors and the
wounding
of 170. Some of the survivors of that attack are in Wisconsin,
living in LaCrosse.
Would you like to meet some of the survivors. I can
arrange it. I also inquired
about the lack of a congressional
investigation of the killing of Rachel Corrie,
an American citizen. I
did not even receive a pro forma reply. Those topics
are clearly on the
Index of Forbidden Topics.
Israel is our number one
recipient of foreign aid and yet we act like a
client state. Does this bother
you? If so, why are you silent on all of
the above issues? What Vow of Obedience
have you taken to abide by the
Index? You, above all, are not dependent on
AIPAC aid.
I am in favor of the two state solution. Are you?
